Job description

Mission :

The DSEC Modelling & Simulation Engineer is a key member of the Process Team, responsible for the development of DSEC’s Integrated Predictive Model (DSEC IPM®) using Matlab / Simulink. This role involves collaboration with project teams to define process concepts, support process engineering efforts, and recommend plant improvements.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Conduct plant audits and consolidate industrial process models.

  • Participate in project process reviews and contribute to process engineering efforts (equipment sizing, P&ID consolidation, etc.).

  • Support project teams in developing recommendations for plant improvement.

  • Work on both existing and new Matlab / Simulink applications.

  • Code, test, debug, enhance, and troubleshoot Matlab models in collaboration with process and simulation engineers.

  • Support and maintain tools related to simulation software, including the model report generator.

  • Investigate and resolve performance issues and incorrect behaviors in the simulator (e.g., crashes, failure to build, incorrect outputs).

  • Create and update technical documentation.

  • Develop the next version of DSEC IPM.

Experience & Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of heat and mass balances, thermodynamics, and chemical process simulation.

  • Familiarity with process unit operations such as filtration, evaporation, crystallization, and distillation.

  • Understanding and interest in decarbonization concepts.

  • Professional experience in computer programming and process simulation.

  • Experience in Matlab and Simulink coding.

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python.

  • Knowledge of Python and/or C++ coding is an asset.

Education

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering with strong Software Engineering knowledge or Thermal Engineering with strong Software Engineering knowledge.
