Job description

De Smet Engineers & Contractors (DSEC) provides the industry with general contracting services as an industrial integrator from project management (EPCM) to full turnkey construction (EPC) via Conceptual Engineering.

DSEC has an established reputation as process integrator, specializing in the agro-industrial fields such as Sugar, Edible Vegetable Oil & Proteins, Biofuels, Bio Based Products & Agro nutrients. To reinforce our project teams we are looking for a PROJECT ENGINEER - UTILITIES :

As a member of the engineering team and under the Project Manager’s supervision, the Project Engineer - Utilities will be DSEC reference in Utilities packages and perform all related technical tasks required by the EPC, EPCM or basic engineering project.

The utilities packages includes Water Production and Treatment, Compressed Air, HVAC, Fire Fighting.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • He masters the relevant norms and standard governing the different packages
  • He prepares the various consumption balances and specify the main equipment
  • He redacts technical specifications, participates to procurement and expedite supplier’s documentation
  • He follows with the concerned suppliers and ensure technical follow-up of DSEC’s subcontracts, up to acceptance of the equipment.
  • He consolidates the supplier’s documentation within the project with support of all disciplines
  • He specifically takes initiatives in conjunction with the Project Manager as to the follow-up of deliveries and costing of equipment to be supplied by DSEC.
  • Travels to suppliers facilities or to DSEC’s project sites for technically oriented missions (10-20% of time), such as expediting, FAT, SAT, commissioning,…
  • He follows contract requirements and suggests corrective measures to be approved by the Project Manager/Contract Manager in case of deviation
  • Follows-up the project’s progress up to its completion within his scope.

Specific tasks:

Compressed Air

  • Specify the appropriate compressors in function of the design consumptions and type of air (Process, Sterile, Instrumentation)
  • Design the compressed air distribution network

Water Production

  • Specify water production system according to water analysis to reach water quality for plant requirements (process water, utilities and steam generation)

HVAC

  • Thermal balance and air renewal design, as well as energy balance
  • Expertise in various environment : process zone, hygienic zone, white rooms, office space, electrical rooms

Fire fighting and Detection

  • Centralize/interface each disciplines of the project
  • Be familiar with international norms (NFPA) and be able to interpret local norms
  • Liaise with local specialized design companies
  • Support the client when dealing with local authorities, fire brigade, insurers,…

Experience

  • A few years of experience in engineering or industry (agro industrial sectors of sugar, vegetable oils, biofuels, agrochemical or biomass)
  • An exposure to the responsibilities described in the “Main tasks and responsibilities” paragraph (above) during at least 2 years

Education:

  • Master in Engineering (Civil works, E&I and automation, Process, Mechanical, Electro-mechanical or Chemistry)

Languages:

  • French (minimum C1)
  • English (minimum C1)
  • Other languages are an advantage
